The Brazilian Amazon
Acajatuba Lodge
The Acajatuba is a rustic lodge and provides a more cost-effective solution for a stay in the Amazon. It is set in a very beautiful location on the edge of Lake Acajatuba, approximately two to three hours upstream the Negro river from Manaus. Rooms are built of local wood and are simply furnished but have private bathrooms (built of brick and mortar) with cold water (although local temperature makes it almost lukewarm). There are 20 cabins, each with two rooms. The cabins, the restaurant and small reception are connected by walkways raised one metre from the ground. The restaurant overlooks the lake and outings take place in the region which is really beautiful. Transfer to/from the lodge is by regional-style boat. A night in Manaus is needed on the return as a boat gets back in the late afternoon. Very good value for money.
