Santa Cruz / Sucre / Potosi
Uyuni Salt Lake / Lake Tititcaca / La Paz
Day 1 – Depart on evening flight to Santa Cruz.
Day 2 – Arrival and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour including the San Lorenzo Basilica, the Casa de la Cultura, a craft centre and the Arenal Park.
Day 3 – Full day tour with lunch to Samaipata Ruins rising from lush tropical vegetation. (B, L)
Day 4 – Flight to Sucre, known as ‘La Ciudad Blanca’ and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city tour including the Recoleta and San Francisco churches and the house where Simon Bolivar signed Bolivia’s independence. Remainder of day at leisure to explore the colonial city with its white red-roofed houses. (B)
Day 5 – Morning transfer by road to Potosi, a silver mining town in colonial times. Afternoon city tour including the Casa de la Moneda (Royal Mint), San Lorenzo church, colonial streets and a working silver mine. Overnight at hotel in Potosi. (B)
Day 6 – Leave for Uyuni and visit the salt producing community of Colchani on the shores of Uyuni, the world’s largest salt lake. See the ‘Ojos de Agua’ sulphur springs and the magnificent sparkling white salt flats set against snow-capped volcanoes. Lunch at an oasis. Overnight at hotel in Uyuni. (B, L)
Day 7 – Return to Sucre with lunch en route. Remainder of day at leisure. Overnight. (B, L)
Day 8 – Full day tour with packed lunch to the colourful market in Tarabuco well known for Indian clothing and handicrafts. Locals still wear leather helmets like those worn by the Spanish Conquerors. (B, L)
Day 9 - Flight to La Paz. Transfer to Huatajata and hotel situated next to the Andean Roots Cultural Complex with museum, eco-village, chapel and spa. (B)
Day 10 – Full day hydrofoil tour on Lake Titicaca including Shrine of Copacabana, Sun Island, lunch at a local restaurant with panoramic views, Moon Island and the Sun Virgins’ temple, the Uru-Iruitos Floating Island and reed boat fishing grounds. (B, L)
Day 11 – Leave for Tiwanaku and visit to the ruins considered by some to be the ‘Cradle of the American Civilisation.’ Continue to La Paz and hotel. Remainder of day at leisure. (B)
Day 12 – Morning city tour of La Paz and Moon Valley. Afternoon free. Overnight. (B)
