Amazon Clipper Premium

For those who wish to have the comfort of a luxury ship, the Amazon Clipper Premium is the answer. Spacious cabins with lower beds and inviting public areas, the boat is small enough to dock at remote spots and cruise to hidden locations due to the shallow draft of only 3 feet.

Experience trips, on the outboard powered canoes, into smaller creeks to see life in the flooded forest, always accompanied by an expedition guide. Other activities include: fishing for piranhas, night trips to see nocturnal animals, views of the floating docks, market and houses on stilts near Manaus.

Unique on the Amazon Clipper Premium is a spacious observation and sun deck with a fantastic 360 degree panoramic view. At 32m (106 feet) long, with a beam of 9 m (30 feet), the Amazon Clipper Premium hosts 32 guests in 16 spacious all-outside cabins, with lower beds, private bathroom facilities with hot shower, individual air-conditioning and safety box.

Sample Two-Night Itinerary

Day 1 – Monday. Depart Hotel Tropical pier at 2pm and navigation to the 'Meeting of the Waters', where the silt-laden waters of the Solimoes River meet the dark waters of the Rio Negro to form the Amazon River. Continue cruise to Curari. Canoe trip, in smaller creeks, to see life in the flooded forest - jute, rubber trees and lakes with giant water lilies (in season).  Return after sunset to observe night life, including caymans. Dinner and overnight.  Navigation up the Amazon (Solimoes River branch) to the Janauaca region.

Day 2 –Tuesday.  Early morning canoe trip for bird-watching. There are good chances of seeing Hoatzins, Egrets and Cormorants. Breakfast. Visit a typical dwelling of one of the local inhabitants who make a living from manioc plantations, fishing, diverse fruit trees, rubber, Brazil nuts, etc. Walk in the forest before returning to boat for lunch and further navigation. In the afternoon,  piranha fishing. After dinner, outing to spot nocturnal animals, sometimes including night-hawks, snakes, Toro-rats, sloth and frogs. Navigation downstream.

Day 3 – Wednesday.  Early morning bird-watching in the Januari Ecological Park or nearby waterways (often good for sightings of Capped Herons). Breakfast and navigation back to Hotel Tropical pier, arriving at 11.30am.

Sample Three-Night Itinerary

Day 1 – Wednesday. Leave the Hotel Tropical landing-stage at 2.30pm approx. On-board introduction with general information on the route and facilities. Navigation to the Ariau river (tributary of Rio Negro). Canoe trip shortly before sunset, returning after dark to observe nocturnal animals and experience the change in the forest as night falls. Dinner. Navigation to Açu-Creck or nearby tributaries.

Day 2 –Thursday.  Breakfast. Guided walk in the forest. Observation of flora. Visit to a ‘Caboclo’ (local inhabitants) family, with the opportunity to see their way of life, preparation of manioc flour (the staple foodstuff of the Amazon), learn about local health facilities, education, etc. Return to boat for lunch. Navigation through the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the largest fresh water archipelago in the world. Visit to the small, isolated town of Novo Airao with an opportunity to see local boat building sawmills and market (at times, also the commerce of palm-fibre and ornamental fish), and other activities. Navigation. Dinner. Night outing to see caymans and possibly frogs, sloth, snakes and other species, depending on the season and weather.

Day 3 – Friday.  Breakfast. Navigation to Praia Grande, a white-sand beach. Swimming (conditions permitting), and observation of vegetation of sandy areas. Canoe trips in Lake Acajatuba or nearby lakes to see typical flora (rubber trees, Brazil nuts, palm trees of various types). Fishing for piranhas. Lunch. Depending on water-level and wind, stop at the Paricatuba community to see old, abandoned rubber-boom buildings, now overgrown with strangler fig trees, or canoe trip in the Jacareubal area. Dinner. Navigation.

Day 4 –Saturday.  Lake Januari. Canoe trip at sunrise for bird watching. Breakfast. Navigation to the "Meeting of the Waters", the meeting of the mighty silt-laden waters of the Rio Solimoes, with the dark waters of the Rio Negro, forming the Amazon River. Return to the Hotel Tropical landing-stage, with fine views of Manaus waterfront buildings, activities and commerce. Arrival at 11.00 am. Approximately.
