San Jose / Tortuguero / Turrialba

Day 1 – Morning departure from the UK. Arrive San Jose in the late afternoon and transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2 – Morning departure to the airport for a local flight to Tortuguero. Upon arrival, transfer to boat and continue to the Pachira lodge. After lunch, visit the museum, beach area and the small picturesque town of Tortuguero. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. An optional (not included) night beach walk tour to see the green turtles nesting (July to September) can be added. (B, L, D)
Day 3 –Early morning tour to see the waking wildlife of Tortuguero. Return for breakfast followed by a boat tour along the canals of the Tortuguero National Park to view abundant flora and fauna. Return to the lodge for lunch and time for a siesta or to enjoy the pool or a walk on the beach. Dinner at the lodge and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 4 –Morning departure by boat to Caño Blanco and road transfer to a local restaurant for lunch. Continue to the Turrialba area, located 65 km (40 miles) east of San José. This region, with evenly distributed rainfall throughout the year, comprises a green mosaic of primary mountain-forests, biological reserves, natural and man-made forests, and coffee plantations. The scenic beauty, fauna & flora diversity, along with white-water rafting and kayaking make Turrialba a favourite spot for tourism. Overnight. (B, L)
Day 5 –Day at leisure. Perhaps taking in an optional tour. Overnight. (B)
Day 6 –After breakfast, return via San Jose along the route to Heredia. Arrive at La Paz Waterfall Nature Gardens and overnight. (B)
Day 7 –Awaken to the sound of waterfalls in the rainforest. Day at leisure to explore the park, view birds and wildlife or take an optional rafting tour. Overnight. (B)
Day 8 –After breakfast continue to San Carlos, an area of exceptional beauty that comprises forests, lagoons, fields of crops, rivers with hot springs, and the active Arenal volcano. Arrive at Tabacon Hotel with the remainder of the day free to enjoy the Tabacon Spa’s natural hot spring and thermo-mineral water pools. Overnight. (B)
Day 9 –Day at leisure to enjoy the spa and explore the San Carlos area. Overnight. (B)
Day 10 –After breakfast, transfer to San Jose for the international flight back to the UK or extend the holiday to enjoy three or more nights at a beach resort. (B)
