Day 1 – Departure from the UK.

Day 2 – Arrival in La Paz and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon tour of the city.

Day 3 – Half day tour, with packed lunch, to the ruins of Tiwanaku which are considered by some to be the ‘Cradle of the American Civilisation.’ Afternoon drive to Huatajata on the shore of Lake Titicaca and hotel situated next to the Andean Roots Cultural Complex with its museum, eco-village, chapel and spa. Day 4 – Full day hydrofoil tour on Lake Titicaca including Shrine of Copacabana, Sun Island, lunch at a local restaurant with panoramic views, Moon Island and the Sun Virgins’ temple, and the Urus-Iruitos Floating Island. Evening stargazing at the Alajpacha Observatory. (B, L)

Day 5 – Transfer to La Paz airport for flight to Sucre, known as ‘La Ciudad Blanca’. Transfer to the hotel. Remainder of day at leisure. (B)

Day 6 – Full day tour with lunch to the colourful market in Tarabuco (Sunday only) that is well known for Indian clothing and handicrafts. Locals still wear leather helmets like those worn by the Spanish Conquerors. (B, L)

Day 7 –
Morning city tour of Sucre including the Recoleta and San Francisco churches and the house where Simon Bolivar signed Bolivia’s independence. Remainder of day at leisure to explore the colonial city with its white red-roofed houses. (B)

Day 8 –
Morning transfer by road through beautiful scenery to Potosi, a silver mining town in colonial times. Afternoon city tour including the Casa de la Moneda (Royal Mint) and the Santa Teresa convent. Overnight at a hotel in Potosi. (B)

Day 9 – After breakfast visit a local silver mine. Leave for Uyuni, en route visit the salt producing community of Colchani on the shores of Uyuni, the world’s largest salt lake. Overnight at hotel in the Uyuni area. (B)

Day 10 – Excursion to the great salt lake. See the ‘Ojos de Agua’ sulphur springs and the magnificent sparkling white salt flats set against snow-capped volcanoes. Lunch at Isla Pescado, See giant cacti and continue to San Cristobal for the hotel and overnight. (B, L)

Day 11 –
Excursion to Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde to see James flamingoes and Sol de Manana Geysers. Packed lunch. Continue to Hito Cajon and cross the border into Chile. Transfer to the hotel in San Pedro de Atacama for three nights. San Pedro de Atacama was the cradle of the Atacama Culture during the pre-Columbian period. The Moon Valley astounds with its geological constitution of salts and carbonates, where nature has shaped a sculptural landscape. Toconao stands out with its bell tower, alleys and craftsmen’s workshops, while the Atacama Salt Flat shelters pink flamingoes among other birds. In the middle of the Andes Mountains are the El Tatio Geysers, which at 4,500 m (14,765 ft) are the highest geysers in the world, with their fumaroles that gush at dawn. (B, L, D)

Days 12 to 14 – Based on the options offered by the hotel, activities will include exploring the Atacama landscape such as El Tatio geysers, Toconao, Atacama Salt Flat, Sejar Lagoon and many of the other local attractions. There will be a variety of activities on offer depending on the dates of your stay. (B, L, D)

Day 15 – Depart for Calama airport and the flight to Santiago. Hotel and overnight stay. (B)

Day 16 – Half-day city tour of Santiago with the remainder of the day at leisure. (B)

Day 17 – Depart Santiago for flight back to the UK. (B)

Day 18 – Arrival in the UK.
