Day 1 – Morning departure from the UK. Arrive in Mexico City late afternoon and transfer to hotel for a three-night stay.
Day 2 – Half-day city tour visiting Mexico City’s historical centre, National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral, parks and avenues and the Museum of Anthropology Rest of day at leisure to enjoy the many attractions of Mexico City.
Day 3 – At leisure – ideal for a visit to the Pyramids at Teotihuacan.
Day 4 – Transfer to airport for flight to Oaxaca, known as the ‘Green City’, because of the colour of the stone from which most of its buildings were constructed. Arrival transfer to hotel and afternoon city tour of this most fascinating Mexican town, offering a mixture of superb colonial buildings and colourful Indian life, reflected in its creative handicrafts.
Days 5 & 6 – Day at leisure or take an optional tour to either Mitla, with a visit to the Tule Tree or the archaeological site at Monte Alban.
Day 7 – Fly to the colonial city of Merida, capital of Yucatan and arrive at hotel. Remainder of day at leisure.
Day 8 – Morning tour of Merida including the Plaza Mayor, the 16th century Cathedral, the Palacio de Gobierno, Archaeological Museum and Palacio Montejo. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 9 -Full-day excursion to the ruins of Uxmal and Kabah.
Day 10 – Continue to the ancient Mayan city of Chichen-Itza, one of Mexico’s most famous archaeological sites. Afternoon free to explore. Evening optional tour to the very good ‘Light and Sound’ show by the ruins (not daily). Overnight.
Day 11 – Travel to the Riviera Maya or Cancun for some relaxation at the seaside.
Day 12 – Full day tour to the Mayan seaport of Tulum situated on a cliff with stunning views of the turquoise Mexican Caribbean. Visit also Coba, one of the largest Mayan cities on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Days 13 and 14 – At leisure at the beach.
Day 15 – Transfer to Cancun airport for your flight to Mexico City with onward connection to the UK.
