Multi Country

Country Information

Argentina, the second largest country in South America, has a rich and varied natural landscape. The vast plains of La Pampa in the east, contrast starkly to the west with the imposing mountain range of the Andes and Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas. Likewise, the grandiose waterfalls at Iguassu, in the subtropical north, and the colonial Baroque architecture and bizarre geological formations in the northwest, are as spectacular in their own way as the beautiful Lake District, wildlife paradise and eternal ice and glaciers in the south. Buenos Aires, as a city, is one of the most sophisticated and elegant of any of the Latin American capitals.

Almost half of Argentina’s population of 40 million live and work in the province of Buenos Aires, and nearly all are of European descent, including 350,000 from Great Britain. The remainder is of native Indian origin.

The subtropical north can be visited at any time of the year, but rain is always a possibility; the skies above the Andes in the northwest are at their sunniest from May to October, but full of rain in January and February. Buenos Aires has a temperate climate, although it can be hot and humid from December to March. Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego are best visited between October and early April, although warm, waterproof and windproof clothing is a must all year round.
