Country Information
Landlocked between Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile, Bolivia is home to towering volcanoes, the majestic snow-capped Andes and tropical rainforest. Its bustling capital city, La Paz, sitting at over 3,600 metres (12,000 ft), is the highest in the world. National ethnic identity is strong and colourful communities of indigenous peoples live today much as they have done for hundreds of years. Llama herders drive their livestock down from high level grazing, whilst women wearing brightly coloured skirts, petticoats and bowler hats can be seen in the local markets.
Bolivia can be visited all year round; the summer, from December to March, usually brings more rain, whilst during the months of May to October the days are sunnier and clearer, with very cold nights. The Amazon lowlands are hot and humid with tropical rainfall throughout the year.
